Tuesday, Oct. 26
Lunch presentation sponsored by PNC Bank, 12:00 p.m. CDT
This presentation will focus on supporting the social emotional development of very young children as a result of the pandemic. PNC’s Senior Vice President and Director of Community and Client Relations will facilitate an engaging discussion with Dallas-based partners Momentous Institute and Educational First Steps.
The year in review – The good, the bad, and the reality of introducing VR in educational settings, 1:45 p.m. CDT
Please join members of Broward County Public Schools, Exponential Destiny, and the National Center for Families Learning as we have an honest discussion about the lessons learned while introducing immersive learning to educational settings. We will start our discussion diving into our vision, strengths, opportunities for growth, and journey with implementing Virtual Reality (VR), and conclude with ways educators can incorporate VR and Augmented Reality (AR) into lesson planning, including social and emotional techniques within school systems.
The Power of Storytelling Math, 3:15 p.m. CDT
This session offers a deep dive into Storytelling Math, a new picture book series that highlights math, diversity, and the power of storytelling, celebrating children using math in their daily adventures as they play, build, and discover the world around them. Join Charlesbridge executive editor Alyssa Mito Pusey, math expert Marlene Kliman, series authors and children’s literature professionals to discuss the series’ joyful stories and hands-on activities that make it easy for kids and their grown-ups to explore everyday math together. Storytelling Math was developed in collaboration with math experts at STEM education nonprofit TERC, under a grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation.
Wednesday, Oct. 27
Experience La Fuerza de Familias Latinas: A Turnkey Solution to Latinx Family Engagement, 9:15 a.m. CDT
Join La Fuerza! We have developed a telenovela with a parent engagement toolkit that facilitates a series of interactive workshops centering Spanish-speaking parents as the most important influence in their child’s development, called “La Fuerza de Familias Latinas” (The Power of Latinx Families). We believe parents already have what they need at home, in-culture, and in-language to promote their children’s early learning, social-emotional growth, and school readiness. How can a telenovela promote family engagement? Become a part of our national community of Parent Leaders and Early Childhood Development Professionals, to learn how! Together we will explore the toolkit for the telenovela, hear from the panelists and build collective wisdom. Attendees to this session receive automatic entry into Literacy Partners’ raffle for a free Professional Development training, valued at $3,000 dollars!
Are You Feeling Inspired? Take Action!, 9:15 a.m. CDT
You’ve spent Monday and Tuesday learning, sharing, and making connections. Now is the time to put lessons learned into action! Wednesday morning we’ll gather one last time to reflect on what you’ve learned and develop a plan of action. NCFL staff will be on hand to help facilitate eight topics in two rounds of thirty-minute collaboration in action (CIA) sessions. Pick two that interest you and walk away with plans to put your new ideas into practice!
